Francis Meilland
Francis Meilland is one of the most highly fragrant Hybrid Tea roses in our garden. The large flowers, that can be up to 5” across, are soft pink and fade to white. It has won several awards including receiving an AARS designation in 2013.
Meilland International SA, the rose breeders who introduced the Francis Meilland rose, is a 6th generation family business that was started in the mid-1800’s. In 1945 Francis Meilland, the son of the founder, developed one of the most famous roses in the world, the Peace rose. His son Alain, developed the Francis Meilland rose and introduced it in Europe in 2006.
It’s a repeat bloomer that typically grows to be anywhere between 2.4’ to 4’ tall and about 2’ wide. It makes a great cut flower. At the Peninsula Park Rose Garden you can find Francis Meilland in beds 6, 7, 10, and 11.
