Madame Caroline Testout

The Madame Caroline Testout hybrid tea rose is the official rose of Portland, Oregon and is over 100 years old.  When the Peninsula Park Rose Garden first opened in 1913, the floor of the garden was planted in nothing but this fragrant, pink rose. Tens of thousands of bushes were planted along parkways in the city. Madame Caroline, as this rose is familiarly known, was created by Joseph Pernet-Bucher in France in 1890.

This rose is represented on most city vehicles and other city properties, such as manhole covers.

The Madam Caroline rose is available to adopt. For more information about our Adopt-A-Rose Program, please click below.
